Information to Parents
The Department of Education has allowed the Solar Panel Application, made by the school last February, to lapse and so following contact and apologies from the Department, the school has had to re-engage with SEAI approved suppliers, obtain 5 quotes and re-upload the application in the hope that the Department of Education are more efficient this time and deal with the application on time.
A list of priorities for school improvement was drawn up by the school (for both inside the school building and outside) and plans drawn up to tackle the work over the next 6/9months. This includes replacing some carpets and floor surfaces within the school, tackling tree growth around the school, repainting parts of the outside of the school, power washing the remainder of the school yards and re-positioning the location of the school’s oil tank.
The oil burner in the heating boiler has had to be replaced recently.
The Board discussed the success of the recent Anne Power Memorial Concert. €4,000 was raised to help bring people to Lourdes.
The school will have its annual Christmas Mass at 10am on Wednesday, December 18th in Dunhill Church. All are welcome.
A Self-Evaluation Report for 2023/4 and a School Self-Evaluation Plan for 2024/25 school year was passed by the board. The current plan concerns the area of Well-Being. It can be viewed on the school’s website.
The Board of Management are engaging with Waterford Council to improve road safety in front of the school.

Information to Parents from our Board of Management meeting – 22/10/2024
  • The School had it’s the Open Day on Saturday, 19th of October from 2-4pm. It was a very successful day. The Board of Management would like to thank all those who helped in any way.
  • In preparation for the Open Day the school organised 2 clean up days, Saturday and Sunday, October 5th & 6th. On the Saturday we had 30 or so parents, staff and members of the Community helping clean, paint and power wash the school. 15 more volunteers were involved on the Sunday.  Again, the Board of Management would like to thank all those who came along to help.
  • Over the Summer the School purchased a new 75” Classroom Smartboard for the infant classroom.
  • 25 new Laptops were bought for the Computer Room to replace the older laptops.
  • A new Marmoleum floor surface was laid in the 5th/6th classroom during the Summer.
  • The date for next year’s Confirmation is Tuesday, March 25th in Dunhill Church.
  • The Board analysed the results of the Standardised tests that were conducted just before the Summer. The Micra-T (English) and Sigma- T (Maths) school results were well above the national averages in both subjects. The Board was very happy with this.
  • Work continues on the School Development plan. This was drawn up earlier in the year to advance the school in all areas.
  • As part of this development plan, a school library has been set up in the spare classroom. The school would like to thank all those who donated books to the library. Display Units were made for the school by the Men’s shed which have added to the library and the pupils will begin to use it on a regular basis after the midterm break.
  • The school’s Sensory or Chill Room has been set up (also part of the development plan and part of the School Self Evaluation Wellbeing initiative) and is available for use by students when the need requires.
  • The Board revised and updated the school Homework Policy (see Policies section on this website)

Meeting Date 1st July 2024

Information for Parents

-           Following Interviews, Azucena Yagüe Revilla has been appointed in the SET Job Share position with Ms McGovern. Both will operate a week on week off role in this SET position in the next school year.
-           The Board of Management and staff had expressed concern at the delay and in some cases the lack of Government Grants needed to run the school. Thankfully several of these grants have arrived and this will enable the school to purchase 25 new Laptops for the Computer Room, install a new 65 inch Portable ActivPanel for the education in the Infant Class and floor the 5th & 6th Class classroom with a new Marmoleum flooring similar to that in the infant classroom.
-            The BASC is going very well and Ruth will be back next year to take charge. The times next year will be the same as this year.
-           The Complaints procedure was sent out to all families around Easter time by e-mail. It can also be found on the school’s website and will accompany the first letter/e-mail to Parent’s in the new school year.
-           There are plans to continue with the GAA Parents training initiative for a 4-week period in September. The Board would like to thank all the parents and both St. Anne’s and Dunhill GAA Clubs for their great work and assistance.
-           Well done to Paul Murphy (Chairman), members of the Dunhill NS Promotions Subcommittee and the Parent’s Council for supporting the Board of Management in the Development of the School Promotion Roadmap. Thanks to all parents who filled out the online survey relating to this Roadmap/plan.
-           The Anti-bullying Policy and the Child Safeguarding Statement and Child Risk Assessment of Dunhill NS were revised and passed by the Board of Management.

Board of Management Meeting April 18th, 2018

  • Following Interviews, Ruth Power has been appointed as the new leader of the BASC.
  • The Board of Management and staff expressed concern at the delay and in some cases the lack of Government Grants needed to run the school. This is a problem for all schools in the country. Last year the promised ICT Grant of €6,000 for Dunhill NS never materialised. All ICT grants to Primary School, which were given 2 different forwarding dates (January initially and then April), never arrived. Once again, this grant had been promised for January 2024 but has not been sent to any school at the time of the meeting. Nor were the Ancillary Grants or the Minor Works Grants which are essential to the effective running of the school. For Dunhill NS, this totals roughly €22,000 in grants that have not yet arrived in the school bank account and so the Principal, staff and Board of Management are concerned about the effective running of the school with new flooring needed, Computer Room laptops needing replacement and some rooms needing to be painted as some of the work awaiting government funding.
  • The 3rd-6th classes will partake in National Cycling Week this year. On Tuesday, May 14th (weather permitting), it is hoped that these classes will cycle from Dunhill school to Annestown via the Anne Valley. Last year's cycle was a massive success and we hope this one goes as well.
  • The school has e-mailed an expression of interest in the School Meal Programme announced by the Government in the last few days. And so, we have been put on a list of schools interested in introducing Government sponsored funding for School meals.
  • The School Rules, Code of Discipline & Code of Conduct Policy for Dunhill National School was reviewed and updated by the Board of Management.
