Last week 1st Class wrote letters to their grandparents, which they then posted in Dunhill. Grannies and Grandads all over Ireland (and further afield!) were delighted and surprised to receive these letters, a tradition we sadly don't often see much of anymore.
Last Thursday May 4th we headed into the RSC by bus for our annual trip to the Primary Schools Sports event. We entered pupils in every event and each child did their very best in their category. Some were lucky enough (and fast enough!) to take home a medal on the day.
Well done to every one who competed, we were so proud of all of you!
We were delighted to find out after the Easter break that we have been successful in attaining our first Green Flag! The Litter and Waste Green Flag will be awarded to the school on Wednesday May 10th in Kilkenny at the 2023 Green Schools Awards. Four of our committee members will travel to the awards on the day. We are all thrilled!
Above you can see a graph of our Litter Audit done in early 2022. As you can clearly see, the amount of refuse we had at the time was very high. All that was going to landfill. We also weren't recycling very much. So, we took action!
What a difference a year makes!
As this graph show, the amount of Refuse we are producing has hugely reduced! We are also recycling far more. Huge thanks has to go to the children for making such a great effort.
1st and 2nd Classes have been studying the solar system, outer space and beyond recently, so in our Art lesson we made some rockets. We also wrote diary entries about A Day in Space.
Don't be too surprised if we have some future astronauts in Dunhill NS!!
All classes took part in a whole school Art day last week, each class worked on collage art with the work of Salvador Dali being inspirational to everyone.
Junior and Senior Infants enjoyed a brilliant Aistear Day recently; the theme was The Dentist and Healthy Eating. Check out the photos of all the fun!
Earlier this week, we put our aprons on for a spot of baking.
We ran out of time to decorate but strangely none of our gingerbread men survived to tell the tale!
As part of the whole-school Christmas Art fabric and fibre day, 1st and 2nd Class made Christmas wreaths. "Somebody" (MRS P) forgot to take pictures until they had their finished product but I can promise faithfully it was really them and not the elves!!
