Both will operate a week on week off role in this SET position in the next school year. - The Board of Management and staff had expressed concern at the delay and in some cases the lack of Government Grants needed to run the school. It can also be found on the school’s website and will accompany the first letter/e-mail to Parent’s in the new school year. - There are plans to continue with the GAA Parents training initiative for a 4-week period in September. The Board would like to thank all the parents and both St. Anne’s and Dunhill GAA Clubs for their great work and assistance. - Well done to Paul Murphy (Chairman), members of the Dunhill NS Promotions Subcommittee and the Parent’s Council for supporting the Board of Management in the Development of the School Promotion Roadmap. Thanks to all parents who filled out the online survey relating to this Roadmap/plan. - The Anti-bullying Policy and the Child Safeguarding Statement and Child Risk Assessment of Dunhill NS were revised and passed by the Board of Management. Board of Management Meeting April 18th, 2018
On Friday 19th last, a large group of pupils ranging in age from 1st to 6th Class travelled by bus to the RSC in Waterford City to take part in the annual Schools Athletics event.
We had relay teams in most age categories as well as individual sprinters and long distance runners in most categories. We were delighted at the try-hard attitude and tenacity of our runners! Some children had never run in this capacity before but that didn't stop them. We were thrilled that some of our runners earned medals in different races but truthfully they could all have got one, such was the motivation and dedication shown by a great group of children. It must also be noted that each and every child behaved so well while representing their school. Older pupils were so responsible, helping bring younger pupils to use the bathroom regularly, collecting and distributing bibs for running and just generally making themselves useful to Alison and Mrs Power. Once again, a great day out for Dunhill NS. On Thursday 11th April and Monday 15th April, the 4 classes in our school undertook our National Spring Clean Day.
We each took on the job of cleaning up a different area in Dunhill. Ms Millea's Junior and Senior Infants cleaned up in the school yard and garden. Mrs Power's 1st and 2nd Class went litter-picking on the Church lane and in the graveyard. Ms O'Neill's 3rd & 4th Class cleared litter on the road all along the front of the school, from Harney's to the turn for Ballinageeragh. Finally, Mr Cooper's 5th & 6th Class went up Ballinageeragh hill and cleaned right up to Veale's farmyard. We were pleased to note that we collected less roadside litter than last year. Every child made a great effort and all showed great pride in their work and in keeping our area looking beautiful. Congratulations to the pupils of 2nd Class who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the First Time in the Church of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday 13th of March.
All pupils did very well, both in reading and singing. They prepared very carefully and should be very proud of themselves! Just a reminder to all parents - the school will be closed on Friday 8th March as the school will be used as a polling place for the upcoming Family and Care Referendums.
Our now annual Spring Clean Day will take place this year on Thursday April 11th.
Last year was a great success in that we collected many bags full of litter. However, we were shocked by just how much we found, that would otherwise still be ruining our beautiful countryside. Hopefully the lasting impact on our pupils will be to ensure they never litter themselves. We would love to see anyone who would like to help out on the day - former pupils, parents, grandparents or other members of the community. Different classes will go at different times and to different areas within the immediate vicinity of the school. We are currently awaiting our Spring Clean packs from An Taisce. A new Board of Management was formed and the following are the officers for the 2023-27 Board term.
Fr. Mark O Farrell, Chairman (Bishops Nominee) Fergus Cooper, Secretary Damain Finn, Treasurer (Parish Nominee) Margaret Power (Parish Nominee) Emma Power (Teacher’s Nominee) Katie Dunphy (Parent’s Nominee) Paul Murphy (Parent’s Nominee) Paul Doyle (Bishops Nominee) - A Sub-Committee will be set up with the purpose of school promotion. The job had been advertised for 2 weeks prior to the Board meeting and there have been a number of applications. - The school via the Government Schools Photovoltaic Programme (SPP) have collected 3 quotations for the installation of Solar Panels in the school. The Board awaits a response from the Department of Education on the successful contractor. The aim is to have these panels in place and active by the end of the Summer holidays. - The school are continuing with their work on a school library in the spare room of the school. Lots of books have been gathered and donations received. Many thanks to those who have brought in books. At present, the school are trying to source cheap and durable display furniture. - The school’s Accident Policy 2024 was reviewed and updated by the Board. |
