This school year we are continuing our efforts to gain the Green Schools Litter and Waste flag. We started our quest for the flag in the 2021/22 school year and things are going well.
Earlier this year we had a visit from Marc Ó Cathasaigh Green Party TD, who fired up our enthusiasm even more and gave us plenty of food for thought.
We have brought in some changes in our Lunch Box rules in order to meet our target and we really appreciate the support of our pupils and parents in this.
Just a reminder of these:
Our Green Schools committee (made up of pupils and staff) have conducted a litter survey and are currently graphing the results. These will be published here once available.
Our daily Litter Pick in the school yard is becoming a lesser chore daily thanks to the efforts of all to reduce their waste and remembering to bin all rubbish.
The next big event in our Green School Flag calendar will be our Spring Clean Day, This will take place (weather permitting) on Tuesday February 21st and we would like to invite all parents and members of the local community to join us as we do our best to clean up the roads and hedges around the school area. Further information on this day will be emailed to parents and there will also be updates on the school Facebook page.
We are delighted to have received 20 new litter pickers from Waterford County Council. Some of these are on loan and some have kindly been donated.

Just a reminder of these:
- Cling film was banned as a wrapping material in lunches.
- We ask that children not bring in Frubes or similar (and if they do they MUST bring them home to bin them)
- We also ask that Cheese Dippers (Dairylea or similar) pots are brought home for cleaning. Children have been doing their best to clean out these pots at school but unfortunately the texture of the cheese does not wash out well and our drains have become blocked with it.
